Simply put, Evolutionary Astrology is the science of Nature through observation and correlation. The moment you took your first breath carries the imprint of your soul as reflected in your birth chart. This includes what your soul has been through in the past which forms your unique complexes and gifts. This includes where your soul is challenged while also desiring to lean into a particular direction. There you have it, the dynamic tension of evolution; the soul having its ‘iceberg beneath the surface’ complexities while simultaneously desiring lived experiences to explore and bring completion to these underlying complexities. Evolution is healing.
This Scorpio new moon on November 1, 2024 is a great segue for discussing what Evolutionary Astrology is. This Moon features Pluto in the final degree of Capricorn for the final time in our lifetime while opposing Mars in Cancer. Juno, a key relationship asteroid is in the final degree of Libra exactly squaring this Pluto+Mars opposition. There are SO many more intense aspects. It’s as if Pluto has said to all of the other planets “take your respective positions on the X on the stage that I have marked for you”. Pluto is like that, its the deep current running through everything that sets the stage for life’s unfolding or stagnation. Pluto always exemplifies the complexity of being human. How we have some desires that contradict other desires. How we have some emotions that are in conflict with other emotions. What happens when we observe external reality at its breaking point as a reflection of our inner strife? The nature of desire may reach a breaking point in the ongoing pendulum swing of either exposing or hiding these complexities.
The point is that Mars is the leading edge of our evolution because Mars is desire. It's that instinctual 'I want to go in this direction' sense, primarily an unconscious process. Without desire, there is no movement. Desires make themselves known to us through our mental, emotional and physical bodies.
It's in our nature to have desires, and unfortunately this has been demonized by our man-made cultures, societies and religions while capitalism promotes a distorted version of desire to feed its hungry ghosts.
Pluto represents the 'why' underneath these desires. In other words, where do my desires come from and where are they leading me? Again, this occurs primarily in the unconscious. A person finds themselves in relationships and situations that are no coincidence to the soul. This is the material that either the soul learns and grows through, or regresses back into old/limiting/familiar patterns. Why can desires be so incredibly complex and actually be in opposition to each other within a single soul? Our evolution is based on the nature of desire. There is so much more going on than what meets the eye. Evolutionary astrology is intended to be used for understanding the 'why?' beneath our experiences and desire nature for the purpose of healing.
